Zaleski State Forest, encompassing 27,822 acres, is Ohio's second-largest state forest. It features the state's only government-operated sawmill and is known for its historic Moonville Tunnel. The forest offers a variety of recreational activities, including a unique backpacking trail dedicated to Selinde Roosenburg, a forest technician and wildland firefighter who tragically died in 2021. The forest also provides a shooting range, bridle trails, and designated hunting areas, emphasizing its commitment to outdoor activities and conservation.
Shooting range is paper target only; centerfire rifles allowed only on the 75-yard range, not the 50-yard range; no permit required; open daily from 1/2 hour before sunrise until 1/2 hour after sunset.
