West Falls Conservation Society (WFCS) was established in 1943 with a mission focused on conservation, sports, and fellowship. It originated from discussions among a group of gentlemen in the back room of the Dog Bar, leading to the creation of a shooting club. The club, run as a business while emphasizing conservation, purchased property on Bridge Street with funds loaned by Mr. Gus Schenne. The original clubhouse, a cabin, was physically moved to its current location. The society is a NY Domestic Not For Profit Corporation, active since its filing on April 14, 1943.
Membership requires attending a monthly meeting, an orientation or 'Walk About', and waiting for a spot to open. Youth members (age 6-18) follow a similar process.
