Fort Crowder Conservation Area, once part of the WWII Camp Crowder Army Base, is located in southern Newton County. It spans 2,362 acres, with 60% forested land and the rest comprising open fields, native grasses, and crop fields. The area, named after Enoch H. Crowder, offers a glimpse into its past with remnants of small farms and serves as a habitat for various game species. It features multiuse trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding, alongside an unstaffed firearms and archery range.
Shooting range closed on Mondays for maintenance. Firearms and spring turkey seasons restrict bicycle and horse use on trails. Alcoholic beverages prohibited on ranges.
