Rocky Fork Lakes Conservation Area, located in Boone County near Columbia, Missouri, spans 2,200 acres and was purchased in March 1979 from Peabody Coal Company, which mined the area from 1963 to 1972. The terrain, shaped by strip mining, features rugged landscapes with broad ridge tops and steep slopes. Approximately 70% of the mined area has been reforested, and the area now includes over 60 lakes or ponds, contributing to its use for a variety of outdoor activities. The conservation area is heavily utilized for its natural beauty and recreational offerings, including a shooting range.
Possession of alcoholic beverages is prohibited on all ranges and associated parking lots. Groups of more than 10 people must obtain a special use permit. Use of the range must comply with posted rules or directions from the range officer.
