Willow Slough Fish & Wildlife Area, established with the purchase of 7,800 acres in 1949 and now spanning 10,175 acres, is celebrating its 75th year. It began with the completion of J.C. Murphey Lake in 1951. The area, once used for grazing, haying, and cultivation, and traversed by a railroad, now provides diverse habitats for wildlife and recreational opportunities, funded largely by hunting, fishing, and trapping license sales and federal programs.
Advance registration required for wild turkey hunting and some waterfowl season dates. Tree stands and ground blinds must be marked with owner's information. Electric trolling motors and self-propulsion only for boats. Specific fishing and hunting regulations apply.
