The Russell Wildlife Area is a 424-acre tract managed by the Mahaska County Conservation Board, showcasing land that has reverted to its natural state after being disturbed. Originally part of a limestone quarry and crushing operation, it now features quarry ponds, wooded areas, and prairie restoration. It offers a variety of outdoor activities including fishing, hiking, hunting, and bird watching. The area also includes a shooting range.
