The Groton Sportsmen's Club, founded in 1938, initially gathered as a group of raccoon hunters. Post-World War II, the club purchased the Godfrey Farm in Stonington in 1946, developing it for hunting and fishing. Over the years, the club expanded its property to approximately 600 acres, including in Voluntown, and now features handgun and rifle ranges, skeet/sporting clays fields, trap ranges, an archery course, and a large fishing pond. The club is active in the community, offering educational courses and training for youth.
