The Oroville Wildlife Area, encompassing approximately 11,800 acres, offers a diverse habitat including riparian woodland and grasslands. It's home to a variety of wildlife and fish species, making it a popular spot for fishing, wildlife viewing, and hunting. The area has a rich history, initially serving as a site for fur trapping, mining, and agriculture, before gold dredging operations began in 1898. The land was designated as a wildlife area by the Fish and Game Commission in 1968 after the construction of the Oroville Dam, which began in 1963 and led to the creation of valuable habitats.
The Rabe Road shooting range is closed for cleanup on the last Thursday of each month except November and December holidays. It is also closed on specific dates in November and December for 2024 and 2025. Paper and clay targets only; no rangemaster.
